2 Dos and 2 Don’ts of Tripping on Shrooms

psilocybin mushrooms

There are no rules when it comes to taking magic mushrooms. Taking shrooms is illegal and is not like playing basketball. There are no referees to dictate what you should or should not do. No one can tell you how you are supposed to take shrooms. And if you know someone who does, you might want to disregard what they say.

There are no rules for taking shrooms, but there are general guidelines—that is to say, general dos and don’ts—and keeping these dos and don’ts in mind when tripping on shrooms and other psychedelics is a wise move even for the most experienced of psychonauts, the connoisseurs of shroom chocolate, the veteran trippers who have been to the moon and back and the moon again.

Do Make Sure Your Mindset Is Right

Going into a trip when you are in the right headspace increases your chances of having a good trip. If you’re happy, your trip may very well turn out to be a happy one. If, by contrast, you’re anxious, your trip might be an anxious one.

To figure out what headspace you are in before tripping, you will need to do some introspection. Honestly assess your mood, first.

Don’t Trip Alone

As Aristotle said, humans are by nature social creatures, so it makes sense that psychedelic trips should be social events. When you take magic mushrooms, one of the worst potential things you can do is sit alone in your room.

Do Trip with a Sober Trip Sitter

It’s much better to take shrooms with other people, people you trust and whose company you enjoy, and at least one of those people should be a sober trip sitter

A trip sitter, otherwise known as a psychedelic guide, is someone who takes care of you when you take psychedelics. A trip sitter is there to ensure your safety and wellbeing and to take care of basic tasks that you might not be able to do easily, like doing the dishes or cooking spaghetti and meatballs, due to being on psychedelics.

Your trip sitter should not be just anybody willing to trip sit for you, however. The ideal trip sitter is a friend you trust and who knows what it is like to be on mushrooms.

Don’t Trip When You Don’t Have the Time

Do not trip when you might have to go to work, drive somewhere, host your in-laws, or even walk your dog.

Ok, maybe it’s okay to trip if you plan on walking your dog, but doing those other things can be disastrous and dangerous. Going to work could get you fired, driving somewhere could lead to a crash, and hosting your in-laws could—well, it depends on your relationship with your in-laws, but it’s probably not a good idea.

It would be much wiser to trip on a day when the weather is nice, you’re in a good mood, your stomach is full, you’ve had enough water, and you have nothing to worry about.

Disclaimer:

Magic mushrooms are an illegal substance. We recommend to never consume them in any case, and always talk about them with your doctor first and foremost.
