The Anglican Communion
It is the third largest after Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. The Anglican Communion is a worldwide family of churches consisting of the Church of England and the Anglican Churches in more than 165 countries that remain in communion with it.
It is composed of 38 autonomous Churches in full communion with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the symbolic head. The spiritual head of the Anglican Communion is the Archbishop of Canterbury, currently Justin Welby, and he is the chief pastor of the Church of England.
Lutheranism
Lutheranism is the branch of Christianity that follows the teachings and theology of Martin Luther, who famously sought to reform the Catholic Church in the 16th century. As a result, Lutheranism is based on the principles of “justification by Christian faith” and the idea that scripture is the ultimate source of authority.
The most popular branches of Lutheranism are the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS). ELCA is the largest of the two, boasting more than 3.3 million members in the United States and many more worldwide.
